Get to know Wind Granma, One Piece Revolutionary Army Ship!

The Wind Granma ship is a ship owned by the Revolutionary Army in the One Piece story that fans may rarely know about. This is reasonable, because Oda Sensei himself rarely presents this ship in stories. In fact, the appearance of Wind Granma in the main story of One Piece can be counted on the fingers. Then, what exactly is this ship?

The Revolutionary Army is one of the organizations that poses a major threat to the World Government. This is because they often “seize” the territory from the World Government and give their independence. The Revolutionary Army takes action using a ship called the Wind Granma. However, maybe not many geeks know about this ship.

Main Ship of the Revolutionary Army

Being a very large organization, it is not surprising that the Revolutionary Army then has several fleets for their transportation needs. Even so, they have a flagship that they always use. This ship belongs to Monkey D. Dragon who is the leader of the Revolutionary Army. The name of the ship is Wind Granma.

The appearance of the Wind Granma itself first occurred in chapter 587. The ship has a complete dragon ornament from head to tail. The existence of these dragon ornaments may have something to do with the Dragon character. The size of the ship itself is not too big, different from the ships usually used by the Yonko, for example the Queen Mama Chanter.

Based on the storyline, this Wind Granma ship has probably been the property of Monkey D. Dragon for more than 10 years. We can see this from the storyline when Dragon was in the kingdom of Goa and saved the residents of the Gray Terminal, including Sabo, who was almost killed by a fire. Previously, this ship had also been seen when it was in the village of Shimotsuki to fill their supplies.

Inspired From Real Ships

Eiichiro Oda is known as a mangaka who often “adapts” or is inspired by something real. For example, the characters in the story are inspired by real figures. Oda also applied this to the Revolutionary Army’s ship, the Wind Granma. The Wind Granma ship turns out to be inspired by a ship in the real world called “Granma.”

According to available information, the Granma ship was the ship used to transport as many as 82 Cuban Revolutionary fighters. They sailed from Mexico to Cuba in November 1956 with the aim of overthrowing the regime of Fulgencio Batista. Apart from the name, maybe Oda Sensei was also inspired by the function of the ship as a transportation for revolutionary fighters.

Because of that, Oda then named this ship the Wind Granma and has a function besides being the main ship of the Revolutionary Army as well as the main ship in this group. Aside from the name “Granma,” how Oda named this ship “wind” might also have a hint about Dragon’s power. Fans have been speculating for a long time that Dragon has devil fruit powers related to the weather, especially wind.

Perhaps, this ship was also driven by the wind power that Dragon created. Unfortunately, the appearance of Wind Granma in the main storyline is very rare. For this reason, information about the ship was not too much.

Any Other Ships?

So far, Eiichiro Oda has only presented information that the Wind Granma ship is Monkey D. Dragon’s ship and is the main ship of the Revolutionary Army. With very little information, either about the Revolutionary Army or about their ships, it is unknown if they have any other ships apart from the Wind Granma. It could be, they have other ships but not many.

Why is that? First, the Revolutionary Army is not an organization that has a lot of supplies, especially in terms of funding. In fact, in chapter 1066 yesterday Vegapunk refused Dragon’s offer to join them and had ridiculed the organization for not being able to fund all of its research. So, maybe Dragon is focusing its funding on something else.

Second, the Revolutionary Army was more active or more frequently engaged on land and not at sea. This is what earned them the nickname “land pirates” from the World Government. Because of that, it seemed reasonable that they didn’t have that many ships. The Revolutionary Army has other means of transportation that they frequently use, for example the Rhino Carriage.

It was a transport chain where a large rhino would pull a train filled with logistics or other supplies. We can see this when the Revolutionary Army rescued the slaves at Tequila Wolf, and when they guided Nico Robin to meet Dragon. Let’s just wait, geeks, for more information about the Revolutionary Army.
