Ben Affleck Returns to DCU as Director!
Ben Affleck is one of the veteran DC Universe actors who will be reprising his role as Batman in the film The Flash and maybe also in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Even so, for now going forward we still don’t know how Ben Affleck’s fate will turn out in the DCU. Interestingly, recently DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn revealed that he is looking for the right DCU project for Ben Affleck, not as an actor but as a director.
For those who don’t know, besides starring in many Hollywood films, Affleck is also actually quite famous as a filmmaker. To this day at least he has directed a number of Hollywood films, including one Gone Baby Gone (2007), The Town (2010), and Argo (2012). With his directing career he has won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for Best Director. While the DCU was still held by Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck had even written and almost directed a solo film The Batman which he was due to star directly alongside Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.
Despite his mixed experiences with DC, he’s now being reported as a potential director for one of DCU’s upcoming projects. This was conveyed directly by James Gunn via account Twitter personal. “[Saya telah] meet specifically with Ben [Affleck] yesterday, because he wanted to direct a film [DCU] and we really wanted him to do that too. We just need to find the right project [untuknya],” Gunn wrote.
It should be noted that for now Affleck himself is still not attached to any DCU projects. On the other hand, DC Studios CEO James Gunn and Peter Safran are still working on a list of DCU films that they will soon announce at the start of the new year. Apart from announcing the film rebooted Superman one that no longer involves Henry Cavill, it’s possible that one of the other DCU films will be directed by Ben Affleck.
Based on Gunn’s latest statement there is a lot of DCU news that we can anticipate early next year. Including films that may involve Affleck as a director. Let’s just wait, geeks. What is clear is that apart from his directing career, Affleck will first return to reprising his role as Batman in the film The Flash which will hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
