The Minister of Communication and Information Explains the Impact of Blackouts on Telco Services

Telecommunication services were also affected by the blackout that occurred on the island of Java. Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Rudiantara also commented on the matter.

Telecommunication services cannot run smoothly because the electricity supply from PLN is not fulfilled. This makes services ranging from SMS, telephone to the internet difficult to access.

“This is because BTS requires PLN electricity, and UPS (Uniterruptible Power Supply) has also been provided. The UPS here works for 3-4 hours. Then when the UPS is off, there is no electricity supply and only the hub is on,” he said.

Rudiantara also said that having a generator is very helpful for keeping telecommunication services alive in offices compared to other areas.

According to the operator’s report submitted to him, the Minister of Communication and Information said that until now they are trying their best to make a recovery. With the blackout, the peak of telecommunications disturbances occurred in the afternoon.
