Rarely Knows! These 10 Hollywood Movies Are Inspired By Anime

Seputargamemoba.com -In America, it is still new to anime even though it has been introduced since the 1960s.

Even so, a number of well-known directors in Hollywood have admitted that their films are inspired by a number of anime. Of course, die-hard anime fans can also see some similarities of this Hollywood film to one or more certain anime.

Then, what Hollywood movies are inspired by anime?

1. Black Swan — Perfect Blue

Satoshi Kon is one of the best anime directors of all time. Witness his great talent including JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Tokyo Godfather, and Paprika. However, Darren Aronofsky used Kon’s other masterpiece for the Oscar-winning psychological drama Black Swan, namely the anime called Perfect Blue. Both have a story about a young girl who gets into trouble with an impersonator and leaves family and friends on the road to fame.

2. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World — Naruto, Afro Samurai, Samurai Jack & Fooly Cooly

The film, directed by Edgar Wright, is inspired by the visual style and adapted from the comic by Brian Lee O’Malley. There are four anime used in the making of the film, namely Naruto, Samurai Jack, Afro Samurai, and Fooly Cooly, which influenced the Oscar concept designer.

3. Edge of Tomorrow — All You Need Is Kill

Few people know that William Cage’s character in this film was inspired by Keiji Kiriya, the protagonist in the light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

4. Looper — Akira

Rian Johnson is one of the directors who uses anime as inspiration in making his films. So, it is not surprising that the film, Looper, is synonymous with many films and anime, including Akira. His character, Cid, is very similar to Akira. Although the story is not centered around Cid, the similarities between the two can still be seen clearly.

5. Lion King — Kimba the White Lion

Osamu Tezuka’s breakthrough manga Kimba the White Lion, released in the 1950s, was adapted for animation in the mid-1960s and became a landmark in international animation. However, Disney continues to defend itself that The Lion King (1994) is an original film. Even so, the similarities between the two are very clear, including a number of almost identical scenes. The names of their main characters are even very similar, namely Simba and Kimba.

6. Inception — Paprika

Inception is one confusing film. However, Christopher Nolan’s film is inspired by Satoshi Kon’s Paprika anime. Aside from the fact that both films deal with the concept of machines used to influence and impact other people’s dreams, the specific scenes in Inception are very similar to the Paprika anime.

7. The Matrix — Ghost in the Shell

The film is heavily influenced by the Ghost in the Shell anime. Starting from concepts like fast-moving green digitizing typography, or the cortical jack that gets users into the Matrix, or the fact that the anime and the film are both dealing with stories of people who realize the reality of their existence and know what it means to be alive, the two cannot be compared.

8. Van Helsing — Vampire Hunter D

Hideyuki Kikuchi immortalized his character in Vampire Hunter D into the novel and two anime. He also helped create the concept of the Dhampir, a half-human vampire and helped eradicate other vampires. Although Van Helsing’s story refers more to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the costume consisting of the iconic black hat Boss of the Plains and the all-black outfit worn by Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing is identical to the Vampire Hunter D anime.

9. Avatar — Princess Mononoke and Ghost in the Shell

The fact that Ghost in the Shell and Avatar have the concept of human consciousness, and Princess Mononoke—an anime with a strong female protagonist—also deals with the premise of humans degrading nature and nature fighting back to defend itself makes the anime film very similar to the anime Princess Mononoke and Ghost in the shells. Although James Cameron didn’t directly say it, some of the stories in the series are very similar.

10. Clash of the Titans — Saint Seiya

The film is influenced by the anime Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. Masami Kurumada’s design elements from Saint Seiya had a strong effect on Louis Leterrier, the director of Clash of the Titans. The director even confirmed that the armor that Dewa wore in the film was a tribute to Kurumada. Warner Bros. even approached Kurumada to help them design the poster for the film.
