Photos and Videos on WhatsApp and Telegram can be hacked! Here's how it works
WhatsApp and Telegram both have encryption systems end-to-end which can make all data when sent will perform encryption automatically. But never assume that the data sent is in the form of photos, videos or other media that cannot be snooped on or broken into.
One researcher from Symantec recently revealed how files in the form of photos and videos can be peeked at by users hacker.
When WhatsApp users send files, be it photos, videos and audio, they will be automatically stored in the internal or external memory. Likewise with Telegram which can do the same when the features ‘Save to Gallery‘.
The research team considers photos stored on external storage to be more accessible to hackers, even if the user has never opened them.
How do hackers see photos sent via WhatsApp?
Hackers will manipulate photos received via WhatsApp by using malware already infected on the victim’s phone. The same method is also used to manipulate multimedia messages that are being sent by the user.
The method used is called Media File Jacking. Actually, this technique has often happened on Android devices.
