Google Doesn't Allow Employees to Use Zoom App in the Office
The Zoom cloud Meeting application is currently an application that is quite widely used during this COVID-19 pandemic. But recently the security of the Zoom application has become the center of attention of many people. Even the CEO of Zoom himself admits that the Zoom application is not that safe.
With that, now Google has taken a firm policy. Google is now banning its employees from using the Zoom app on office computers.
What was done by Google was known after being disseminated by internal Google employees last week via e-mail. In the news circulating, Google also mentioned that the Zoom application had a security vulnerability.
Google Bans Employees from Installing Zoom App on Office Computers
“We have an old policy that does not allow employees to use applications that are not approved and are outside the company network,” said Google representative, Jose Castaneda.
The security team from Google has also notified that the Zoom Desktop Client application can no longer run on office computers, because it no longer meets security standards.
However, if employees really want to use Zoom, they can access it via a web browser or personal smartphone.
Besides Google’s efforts to prohibit its employees from using the Zoom application on office devices. Google now has similar teleconferencing apps like Hangouts Meet. The application is also quite popular and widely used in the US.
Based on information from App Annie, the average weekly download of the Zoom application increased by 14 times from March 14-21 2022. This is a far cry from the same period in the fourth quarter of 2022.
While the Google Meet application only increased 24 times downloads in the same period.
Besides Google Several Companies Have Also Taken Similar Policies
As Dafunda Tekno quoted from 9to5Google, Google is not the first company to ban the use of the Zoom application for its employees. Because previously the company founded by Elon Musk, SpaceX has also carried out the same policy.
Likewise with the government of New York, USA, because the Department of Education in the region has prohibited teachers from using the Zoom application. For the teaching and learning process with students.
Now they are advised to use Microsoft Teams to support teaching and learning activities from home during the physical distancing period.
Microsoft Team is considered more secure and in line with the rules in protecting all privacy rights of US students.
Some of the weaknesses of the Zoom security system have now been revealed to the public, with users increasing day by day during the deadly epidemic pandemic.
Previously, the Zoom application installed on the iPhone and iPad was also reported to have sent user data to Facebook even though the user did not have a Facebook account.
It was also recently reported that thousands of Zoom videos were leaked on the internet without having a password. That way Zoom promises to improve security in the next few months and add the latest features
