BM phones in Indonesia in 6 months will be blocked
Now three Ministries are trying hard to reduce the number of illegal mobile phone circulation or what is known as black market (BM) in Indonesia. In this case, Kominfo is the one who decides to block the use of blackmarket (BM) smartphones.
Although this regulation was signed in mid-August, the Director General of SDPPI, Ismail, said it would take about 6 months to implement it.
According to him, this time is needed because the three ministries have not been able to quickly resolve several matters related to the policy.
There are eight things that must be prepared including, the SIRINA machine, the preparation of several IMEI databases, conducting tests, synchronizing data for each cellular operator, socialization, preparing human resources, SOPs for the three ministries, and setting up a center for consumer services.
So if the signing of the policy is on August 17, then the blocking of blackmarket cellphones is likely to begin February 17, 2022.
However, it is possible that the blocking process will start in a faster time. The Minister of Communication and Information, Rudiantara, stated that the estimated time of six months is the slowest estimate.
Then the question arises, what will happen to illegal cellphones purchased before August 17th? The Ministry of Industry has confirmed that blackmarket cellphones purchased before 17 August will not be blocked.
Besides that, there is also another question, what if you buy a cellphone from abroad after August 17th? So, according to the signed regulation from the Ministry of Industry, users will no longer be able to use cellphones purchased from abroad.
“There are no more imported cellphones purchased after August 17, because they can’t be used anymore in Indonesia”
