AI LINE Business, LINE BRAIN, Starts Operation

LINE Corporation (“LINE”) announced today the launch of its LINE BRAIN business, which will offer LINE-developed AI technologies – such as the AI assistant “Clova” – to external companies.

Up to now, LINE has developed and combined various AI-based technologies deep learning – including the AI assistant “Clova” – into the LINE messaging app and various other services.

Clova allows users to check the weather, play music, and send and receive LINE messages using just their voice.

These functions are supported by AI technologies such as voice recognition and speech synthesis.

There is also technology chatbot fixed by LINE Kantan Help, one of LINE’s official accounts, which allows AI to respond quickly to questions submitted by users in LINE chat rooms.

Another technology is optical character recognition (OCR) technology used in LINE chat rooms and in the food review app LINE CONOMI, which automatically converts characters captured on camera via images or received into text.

Starting today, LINE BRAIN will offer all these AI technologies from LINE to other companies.

For more, LINE BRAIN will develop trying to combine the LINE BRAIN voice recognition technology, chatbots, and speech synthesis to make an AI automated reply system for calls a reality.

It is anticipated that this feature will be able to make phone calls automatically in a variety of scenarios, including in customer service, and restaurant reservations.

By providing this LINE technology, LINE BRAIN aims not only to help other companies to increase the productivity and efficiency of their services, but also to make everyday life easier for the users who use the service.

Sales Plan

LINE will offer technology chatbot, character recognition technology, and voice recognition technology gradually starting from July.

This technology is able to understand and respond to speech and can be connected and used by official accounts on the LINE application and other applications.

This technology is interactive and helps users to complete their activities.

AI learns to understand concurrent users as it is used, so it is able to generate appropriate responses.

Technology can also be used in other services besides LINE such as LINE WORKS, Facebook, and chat on certain sites.

LINE BRAIN CHATBOT has also demonstrated a more precise response rate compared to technology chatbot other*.

This technology can be used to meet customer needs and provide answers to company FAQ lists.

*Based on LINE Corporation study. “Appropriate response rate” refers to whether or not the bot gives the expected response to a question.

Line Brain Product Line

LINE BRAIN OCR

This technology converts letters and sentences in images into textual data, and has outperformed international conventions to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in recognizing characters in photos, scanned or printed text, or screenshots.

In ICDAR, LINE BRAIN OCR surpassed competitors’ AI technology and took first place globally in 4 areas as of 29 March 2022.

This technology can be used to read text on application forms, order forms, invoices, as well as the date, item and amount on the receipt, or driver’s license, My Number card, and other documents required for the identification verification (eKYC) process.

LINE BRAINS SPEECH TO TEXT

This technology converts human speech into text and also supports voice calls via telephone and VolP.

This technology is also capable of handling automated responses automatically real-time for call centers and copy text from long documents through a grouping process.

STT is also capable of handling product names and other unique words (which have low accuracy in speech recognition), so it is hoped that this technology can be used in customer service to copy subtitles videos and prepare meeting minutes.

LINE has selected a number of partners to cooperate in the development and improvement of AI technology.
