Types of Firewalls in Network Security

In the previous discussion, I wrote about the function of firewalls on computer networks and VoIP. So, on this occasion I will write Types of firewalls on existing computer networks.

firewall type

Remembering a little more, A firewall is a security system in a network computer. The main task of firewalls are protect computer data from being hacked by other people.

Apart from that, the firewall also functions to record user activity or traffic computer network.

So, if you remember firewalls, let’s discuss firewall types.

1. Proxy Firewall

The first is a proxy firewalls. Where the proxy firewall functions as a gateway from one network to another network for certain applications.

Proxy Servers can provide additional functionality, such as content caching and security by preventing direct connections from outside the network.

However, this process can result in impacted throughput capabilities and the applications they support.

2. Stateful Inspection

Inspection stateful firewalls can also be said to be traditional firewalls that function to block traffic based on country, port, and protocol.

This process makes it possible to monitor all activities from connection opening to connection closing.

3. Unified threat management (UTM) firewall

If UTM is interpreted as integrated threat management, where usually these UTM tools are combined in a loose way. Functions for intrusion prevention and antivirus.

4. Next-generation Firewall (NGFW)

Firewalls has experienced very rapid development, so that most companies are aiming for a new generation of firewalls.

The aim is to block increasingly modern threats, for example advanced malware and application layer attacks.

According to Gartner, Inc This new generation of firewall should include:

  1. Standard firewall capabilities such as stateful inspection
  2. Integrated intrusion prevention.
  3. Application awareness and control to spot and block risky applications.
  4. Techniques for dealing with growing threats.

5. NGFW Threat-focused Firewall.

This firewall includes all traditional NGFW capabilities and also provides advanced threat detection and remediation.

With using firewalls this we can do:

  1. Know which assets are at risk.
  2. Address threat risks quickly and automate.
  3. Perform intelligent security by dynamically setting policies and hardening defenses.
  4. It is possible to detect suspicious activity with network and endpoint event correlation.
  5. Easy administration and very simple to use.

So that’s about it types of firewalls along with a little explanation, hopefully it’s useful
