Jesse Powell, Grammy-nominated R&B singer, dies aged 51

Singer Jesse Powell – the Grammy-nominated R&B singer known for hits like “You” – is dead. He is 51 years old.

His sisters Trina and Tamara Powell announced his death on social media Tuesday.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully at his Los Angeles home,” the Instagram post read.

“The family requests privacy at this time as we mourn this extraordinary loss and celebrate his lasting legacy.”

They ended the message by thanking the fans.

“Jesse loves music and he especially loves his fans who have supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you mean the world to him,” his sister wrote.

No cause of death was immediately given.

Tamara also posted a throwback video of her brother singing, captioned the sweet clip: “Besides being one of the best male R&B singers, you’re the best big brother ever. I really love you. I am grateful that we are so close. ; messy all the time.

He laments: “We really adore you [and] our family would not be the same without you.

Powell released four albums between 1996 and 2003, with his second album “’Bout It” certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999.

The singer-songwriter song “You” peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B chart and No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1996.

Powell is also known to have a vocal range of four octaves – a rarity for musicians.
