17 Ways to Solve Unreadable SIM Card (All Cellphones)
The SIM card is one of the important components in communicating on a smartphone. There are various providers in Indonesia such as Telkomsel, Indosat, Axis, XL Axiata, Tri, and Smartfren.
But the problem sometimes appears like the sim card is not read on the device. This certainly makes us confused, especially for ordinary people who do not understand this kind of technical problem.
Both Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung mobile users must have experienced this. I don’t know what the cause is, but what is certain is that there are many causes that can cause this problem.
The reason why the phone shows ‘No SIM Card’ or ‘SIM Card Not Detected’ is one of them because the SIM card is not installed properly so that the SIM card is not serviced.
Causes of Unread SIM Card
Here are some of the most common causes of an unreadable sim card:
SIM Card Slot Damaged
A damaged sim card slot can be the reason why the sim card cannot be read, this usually happens because we often change sim cards which causes the slot to be damaged.
SIM Card Usage Expired
If you often forget to top up your credit, the card will enter a grace period and when the grace period expires, the sim card cannot be used again. Make sure your card is always active and filled with credit.
IMEI Lost
The IMEI number which usually contains 15 number lines is a smartphone identity. If you like to hack Android, usually this will erase the IMEI, causing the sim card to be unreadable.
PA IC problem
IC PA is one of the components in charge of receiving signals on the cellphone. If this component is damaged, then the phone cannot receive a signal and even the sim card cannot be detected.
However, that is not the only cause. There are many reasons why the SIM card cannot be read. And because the causes are many, we also have ways to overcome them that are no less numerous.
Here’s how to solve an unreadable sim card:
Correct SIM Position
Is it possible to change the SIM card position? The SIM can change position (slightly tilted/out of alignment) after the phone is dropped. This is why many suddenly lose their network signal after the phone drops.
For that, try to correct the position of the SIM first by removing and then installing it again. The SIM must be firmly tucked into the slot, if your phone is a battery-mounted type, you can add tape or cardboard to prop it up.
Restart your HP
If you just bought a new card, and the network has not appeared, try turning off your cellphone with the restart button.
Many phones will not recognize a new SIM card until they restart their phone.
And this method is also commonly used by people to fix network errors, slow networks, and others.
Match Your Operators Manually
Sometimes, an HP setting can change suddenly. This makes the network suddenly break. To reset it, you can search or match your carrier manually without waiting for our HP system to fix it itself.
- Open settings menu
- Go to ‘Connections’
- Select ‘Mobile Network’
- Then click ‘Network Operator’
- Search network manually
The steps above are not always the same, depending on the phone you are using.
Cleaning the SIM Card
It could be that the SIM card is unreadable because the brass side of your SIM is dirty. You have to clean it, the way is simply by swiping the rubber eraser against the brass part on your SIM Card.
After cleaning, then plug it into the slot again. If it still doesn’t work, don’t worry, we still have many ways to fix the SIM card not being read.
Change Network Mode To Automatic
What does changing network mode to auto mean?
In network mode, we are given several options: 3G only, 3G/2G auto-connect, LTE/3G/2G auto-connect and 4G only.
Choose a network that lets you automatically connect to a network so that your device can choose the best network to use. Is it 4G, 3G or 2G.
Testing the SIM Card on Another Phone
You should do this method before deciding to buy a new SIM card. If the result is that other devices cannot read the SIM, it means that your SIM card is damaged. But if the SIM can still be read, there could be a problem with your cellphone.
Changing a New SIM Card
If there is damage to the SIM card gold plate, you should quickly replace the SIM card because if it is damaged, the way to fix it is to buy a new one.
If you experience problems such as mobile data not showing up, then you can also apply this method to find out the cause.
Uninstalling Then Installing Your SIM Card
Turn off your phone first and then remove the SIM card from its place. Then install again.
Do it several times until it works.
If the SIM card is still unreadable, you can use another method to fix it.
Turn Flight Mode On and Off
When the flight mode toggle is activated, it will automatically disable all cell broadcasts and receptions. This method can fix errors on your network, so it can’t hurt to give it a try.
You do this by going to the settings menu or dragging your screen window down or by pressing the power button until several options appear. Then turn on Flight Mode and turn it off.
Clear Your Android Cache Data
The effect of doing this is that all your information data on applications is erased. But that’s okay, you can slowly gather the information again.
To do so, here are the steps you have to do:
- Open the settings menu, then go to ‘Storage’
- Select ‘Storage Settings’
- Click ‘Internal Storage’
- Then select ‘Data cache’
Check Your SIM Card Slot
If the SIM card is unreadable, the problem may be the slot or where you put the SIM card.
If that’s the case, try to block the SIM pad to make it more depressed. Or buy a new slot and ask to be paired by an HP repairman.
Contacting Customer Service
Sometimes, to deal with these SIM card issues, all you need is to contact the carrier and then ask them to activate your SIM card.
You can also contact the cell phone service center. Later you are usually asked to mention the IMEI number. Knowing your IMEI, they can replace your SIM card, slot reader or even your Android. But it depends what your phone problem is like.
Reset Network Settings
Change network settings back to default settings. That way, the old network settings can be erased and returned to the original settings. It is hoped that this way it can remove notifications from network not detected or SIM card not being read.
To do this, here’s how:
- Enter the settings menu
- Select the ‘Backup and Reset’ section
- Then select the option ‘Reset Network Settings’ or English ‘Reset Networks Settings’
Remove Problematic Third Party Apps
One of the causes of network problems is also due to third party applications. To find out if your third-party application has a problem, you can do the following steps:
- Run your device in safe mode for 2 to 4 hours
- If the third-party application can be used, then the application has a problem
- But if a third-party application cannot be used, then the application is safe
- Safe mode or safe mode only runs the default applications. If the application is not the default can still be run, it means that there is something dangerous in the application
Once you know which third-party apps are unsafe, you can immediately uninstall them.
Change HP Back to Factory Settings
Keep in mind, this method will delete all data, applications, videos, music, photos, documents and others. It’s not like clearing cache, which only deletes the data, if a factory reset is deleted, everything is deleted.
- Enter the settings menu
- Select the ‘Backup and Reset’ option
- Then select ‘Factory Reset’ or return the phone back to factory view
Update Android OS
Many people are lazy to update their Android OS for some reason. Even OS updates are not mandatory, but you can try this method who knows if it works.
The trick is to enter the ‘Settings’ menu, then look for the ‘Software Update’ option, finally click the ‘Download Updates Manually’ option.
Restore Your ROM to Original Version
This method only applies if you have flashed the phone with a different ROM. Especially if before flashing your network was fine, then after flashing it was not okay. This could be the reason why your network is having problems.
To do this method, use ‘Recovery Mode’ then do ‘Factory Reset’. Next, go to the ‘Backup and Restore’ menu and select ‘Restore’. This method is also known as wiping Android data.
If you get here the SIM card can’t be read too, it means your phone is damaged. You should immediately take it to a trusted repairman and ask how much it will cost to repair it.
