The legendary game, Super Mario Bros. has just celebrated its 36th anniversary. The celebration is in connection with the release date which was first published by the developer and publisher Nintendo on September 13, 1985 ago in Japan.

Before gaining its popularity in the global market, the video game Super Mario Bros. had failed to penetrate the US market. It was then that Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka insisted on creating a new and different concept than before.

The choice of the name Mario started from Miyamoto who was working in an area in Seattle, United States. He then had to face the landlord who came suddenly and collected the rent that was deemed due. And the name of the land owner is Mario.

Previously, Miyamoto as a developer created a story concept like the character Popeye, a man who has power and tries to save the girl he loves. Then Miyamoto changes it by presenting the plumber who has the power to save his love from the attack of the giant gorilla, namely Dongkey Kong. After that Miyamoto named the main character in the game as Jumpman.

But after a meeting with the owner of the land where Miyamoto rented, he then thought about changing Jumpman’s name to Mario. Next, Miyamoto presents a new character, namely Luigi, who is none other than Mario’s brother.
