This WhatsApp Weakness Can Make Messages Changed At Will!

There is a new way that can be used to exploit security holes in Whatsapp, namely by manipulating features reply in a message. The loophole was discovered by a team of a cyber security company Checkpoint, demonstrating how to use it at Black Hat, a prestigious cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas, United States.

In the event, it was seen the method used to change the text of the reply message sent by someone. So that the message that has been replaced looks like it was actually sent by the original sender.

The case is, for example, if there is an employee who asks his boss to increase his salary through a WhatsApp message. The boss replied that he would increase the salary of Rp. 1 million. However, in this way, the employee can change the text to a nominal value of IDR 5 million with the exact same appearance.

So, for example, he might show off his Rp 5 million increase in salary with a message as if it was from his boss. Because there is no difference from the original. A demonstration video that’s been shared a while back, but it’s only now that Checkpoint is taking it seriously at a major event.

WhatsApp Gap Can Manipulate Conversation Content

Checkpoint researcher Oded Vanunu said this method could be used by irresponsible people to manipulate conversations on the Facebook-owned platform.

He also added that this loophole could change all the contents of the conversation being replied to. All characters can be changed at will.

A loophole like this should be a priority for improvement, especially since hoaxes via WA spread very quickly in a country like Indonesia. In fact, this hoax problem will lead to violence and death.
