This is the portrait of Borneo when viewed from space

East Kalimantan (Kaltim) is currently a hotly discussed area after Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) declared Indonesia’s newest capital city. Has it been a year yet if the previous portrait of Borneo was ever captured by the United States Space Agency (NASA) from outer space? So here’s a portrait of Kalimantan from outer space.

It’s not specific only to East Kalimantan, NASA took the portrait as a whole. That is the result of Dafunda Tekno’s investigation of the photo archive owned by NASA.

In addition, as Dafunda Tekno quoted from Visible Earth, there is a page that has been provided by NASA related to photos and animations of planet Earth and shows two pictures of Borneo.

The first photo shows Kalimantan as a whole, which includes West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan. The picture also shows an island called Borneo, showing the territories of Sarawak (state of Malaysia) and Brunei Darussalam.

Still with the same photo, you can see the beauty that comes from Kalimantan covered in white clouds and surrounded by the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, the Sulawesi Sea, and the Java Sea. NASA took this photo in mid-May 2002.

NASA also has a recent photo of the island’s view with an area of 743 kilometers, taken on August 5, 2022. Unfortunately, the photo is not as clear as before.

The image is taken directly from the International Space Station (ISS) and focuses more on the storm conditions that occurred over Borneo. It is also clear that the curvature of the Earth depicts the beauty of Borneo when viewed from space.
