One of the companies that focus on network research mobile Open Signal returns to report the results of its latest research entitled ‘Mobile Network Experience Report July 2022‘ Throughout Indonesia.

The report describes the internet speed of five cellular operators in the country, including Indosat Ooredoo, Smartfren, Telkomsel, XL Axiata, and Hutchinson Tri (3).

In the internet speed list, Telkomsel is listed as an operator that has download speed and upload highest nationally based on test results. The average download speed on the Telkomsel network has increased in numbers 9.8 Mbps.

When compared, the internet speed of Telkomsel and XL when downloading is only a difference of 2.4 Mbps. This means that Telkomsel is faster than XL, thus making XL rank second in the report.

For business upload the average speed that Telkomsel is able to achieve is in numbers 3.7 Mbps and its toughest rival, XL was only able to record in 3.4 Mbps. So it is still in second position after Telkomsel.

While the third, fourth and fifth positions for each operator were occupied by Tri (5.2 Mbps download/ 3.2 Mbps download), Indosat (4.8 Mbps download/ 2.5 Mbps upload), and Smartfren (4.5 Mbps download/ 1.2 Mbps upload).

The research was conducted in 16 major cities in Indonesia, namely DKI Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Tangerang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Makassar, Medan, Pelembang, Bandar Lampung, Pekanbaru, Semarang, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Batam.

Even though the Telkomsel network scores the highest in terms of internet speed, this communication giant is still inferior to Smartfren when it comes to the availability of 4G networks. Now Smartfren is fully using the 4G LTE network.

Open Signal also noted that Telkomsel’s upload speed decreased by 1 Mbps in the last 6 months, while upload speed Indosat, Smartfren, and XL increased by at least 0.5 Mbps at the same time.
