This FaceID was successfully accessed with only glasses and masking tape

A security system that uses Apple’s FaceID is one of the safest ways to get into your phone. The reason is, this security system is not the same as fingerprints that can be replicated or printed in 3D. That way it’s impossible for a face to be tricked even using a mask or photo.

However, the security was not as promised above. A study was able to bypass the FaceID security system on the iPhone which is called very secure.

As Dafunda Tekno quoted from Ubergizmo, researchers from Tencent managed to find a way to break into FaceID. The trick is to use only two simple tools, namely using glasses and masking tape.

With these two methods, they can be used to trick FaceID’s liveness detection system into determining that the scanned face is not actually a mask or photo.

You do this by sticking black tape on the glasses and placing it on the owner’s face while sleeping or unconscious. Using this method, the researchers were able to unlock users’ iPhones. In addition, the system can also send money to themselves via a mobile payment application.

Although these two methods look simple, they are also complicated for the hacker to access. Because they hope that the victim is asleep or unconscious.

So this has little chance of happening for iPhone users. Still, this needs to be considered by Apple in order to provide even better security going forward.
