Successfully Overtaking Samsung, Oppo Becomes the Number One Mobile Phone Manufacturer in Indonesia
One of the smartphone vendors from China, Oppo for the first time was able to shift Samsung’s position as the king of smartphones in Indonesia. These results are known through a report from the market research institute Canalys in the second quarter of 2022.
Canalys noted that Oppo’s market share in Indonesia in that period could reach 26 percent, growing to 54 percent globally year over year (YoY). Although Samsung also increased by 10 percent YoY, the Korean company was forced to drop to second place with a difference of only 2 percent.
The King of the Most Selling Smartphones or Smartphones in Indonesia
Oppo claims several series of phones from A and F to be the key in increasing Oppo’s market share in that period. Some of these types such as A1k, A5s, F11, F11 Special Online Edition, and F11 Pro which contribute more to the number market share in this quarter.
According to Canalys, retail sales in stores (offline) is also Oppo’s caretaker.

Going back to the Canaly report, Xiaomi got a red report card in the same quarter. The report notes that Oppo’s competitors are in third place with a market share of 19 percent and a decline of 9 percent from the previous year.
While in fourth position, there is Vivo with a market share value of 15 percent which experienced a very significant YoY growth of 62 percent. Then, there is the newcomer Realme who managed to climb to the fifth position with the number of market share 7 percent.
There’s a Report Difference
According to the results released by the research firm Counterpoint Research, there are slight differences. They also just released the results of research on the market share of smartphone sales in Indonesia Q2 2022 last week.
Oppo according to Counterpoint is in third position with market share 17 percent, practically unchanged from last year. This is clearly very different from the results of the Canalys report which put Oppo in first place.
Meanwhile, in the first place according to Counterpoint, it is still from a smartphone company from South Korea, namely Samsung with a market share of 27 percent. Then, followed by Xiaomi in second place with a market share of 21 percent in the second quarter of 2022.
However, Canalys or Counterpoint still place Realme in fifth place as a newcomer.
