Russia Will Implement a Prohibition of Using VPNs for Its Citizens, Here's Why!
Maybe this article is very helpful for those who want to visit Russia in the future. In the near future, the Kremlin will block travelers using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) from connecting to the internet in their country.
Previously, Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications watchdog, last March, asked the top 10 VPNs to connect their servers to government-run IT systems. Russia in this case reasoned as a way to prevent people in his country from accessing banned sites.
There will be 30 days for VPN providers to respond to the government’s request. Of the nine VPNs stated that they rejected them ExpressVPN, Hola VPN, HideMyAss!, IPVanish, KeepSolid, NordVPN, OpenVPN, TorGuard, and VyprVPN. Only one Kaspersky VPN complies with these conditions.
Russia Bans Its Citizens From Using VPNs
NordVPN says it complies with government regulations, tantamount to breaking the agreement the company makes with its users.
Then the head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov responded to the refusal by saying for those who do not comply with the law in their country, the consequences will be blocked. Russia plans to block the above nine VPNs within the next month.
The law must be strengthened, and if a company persists in resisting and disobeying the law, then it remains blocked, says Zharov
If this is implemented, then Russia appears closer to implementing the internet regulations that were announced last year, the Digital Economy National Program. It states that local internet service providers (ISPs) can still use them properly when Russia is not connected to the world’s internet.
In this way, Russia will isolate itself from the global internet in the future.
