Kominfo Starts Banning Sales of Foreign Sim Cards for Hajj Pilgrims

Now the government through the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) has begun to take steps regarding the sale of Zain cards. This foreign operator card from Saudi Arabia is targeting prospective pilgrims from Indonesia.

Acting Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Ferdinandus Setu said that Kominfo has temporarily banned the sale of Zain starter packs in the country. Fernandus also said that the Directorate General of PPI Control at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics had immediately checked the SIM Card sales location at Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory on July 17, 2022.

The results obtained were two booths selling these external cards. It is known, Zain Telecom is ready to give its customers quota for hajj and umrah packages IDR 150.000. To register, you can do it in Saudi Arabia by visiting the Zain Telecom booth at the airport and Indonesia Hajj inn hotels.

The ban on the sale of these cards will continue until Kominfo clearly understands several aspects related to consumer protection, as mandated in the UUD No. 8/1999 and other laws and regulations.

In addition, Kominfo will also sit with the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Religion and YLKI to coordinate. Their focus is on the protection of telecommunications consumers when using the Zain Sim Card.
