Hundreds of Uber employees laid off, this is the reason!

Uber now reportedly has cut hundreds of employees who are in the field of marketing. Termination of Employment (PHK) is applied globally.

As Dafunda Tekno quoted from CNN, one of the transportation service providers who are now able to be in the IPO shares confirmed that they had terminated as many as 400 employees from a total of 1,200 in marketing positions.

“We didn’t make this change because the marketing team was no longer important to Uber. The truth is quite the opposite: we are making changes because we want to show the world our power, unity and dynamic vision, more focused than ever before,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

Layoffs carried out to hundreds of employees may be based on pressure in the financial sector that has not improved. They previously also suffered losses of up to USD 1.01 billion in the first quarter of this year, while growth has now slowed slightly.

They are also predicted to still suffer billions of dollars in losses next year. As Uber’s Chief Executive Thuan Pham said, they still need a few more years to be at a steady profit.

“We also face local competitors everywhere who want to expand massively to grow their business, and we have to fight them.”

Uber had opened their service in Indonesia. However, in 2022, this company had to leave because it was unable to compete with other transportation service providers such as Go-Jek and Grab.
