How to Set TP Link TL-WR840N as an Access Point
One of the advantages that many users of this router take advantage of is its use as an access point. This function allows the router to be used for office operations or small businesses to home users because it can expand the range of wifi transmitters.
In other words, the router is used as a range extender or repeater aka signal amplifier. In this way, users can still spread the wifi network even though the modem is in a different room or floor.
How to set the TP Link TL-WR840N as an access point itself is also not too complicated assuming that the internet network has been connected from the ISP service and has been set on the Mikrotik port. The steps you can take are:
- Turn on the TP-Link TL-WR840N router until the orange light on the globe icon flashes, it means the router is in the reset/null position or has not been set.
- Connect the router to a computer or laptop using a LAN cable or using the wireless connection option.
- Find the Wireless Name / SSID: TP-Link_0F0E which is usually under the router body complete with SSID, Username Password and Admin password.
- Connect by inputting the password attached to the body of the router and then clicking “Join” to start the connection.
- Once connected, open a browser on your computer or laptop and type “http://tplinkwifi.net” in the address bar. Or you can also input the router’s Default IP 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (usually you can find it in the manual)
- Login by entering username and password. Usually by default it is username: admin and password: admin). Click “Login” to start entering the Settings view.
- In the initial screen, click “Quick Setup” then click “Next” to start.
- Select “Access Point” then click “Next”
- Enter the SSID / Wireless Network Name, Security and wifi password then tick “Advance Settings” to determine the Mode and Channel. Put a check mark according to the network usage scheme in your location. If it feels appropriate, click “Next”.
- Next, select “LAN Type” by specifying a Static Router IP so that you can get full control over the Access Point later. You can also choose a Mikrotik DHCP Router according to your needs. Enable the DHCP Server so that connections by other devices get an automatic IP. Done, click “Next”.
- After a notification appears that reads “Congratulations”, it means that the settings you made have been applied. After that, click “Finish” so that the Access Point router connection is restarted (Reboot). Wait for the process to finish.
