How to Fix Unreadable External Memory
An external memory card commonly referred to as an SD Card (SDCard) is one of the devices needed in a smartphone. Although now there are many gadgets that use large internal memory, external memory is still needed to store data.

Easy Ways to Fix Unread or Damaged Memory Card
Clean Memory Card from Dirt
- The first step you take to overcome the unreadable memory card is to remove it from your smartphone or gadget. Don’t forget to turn it off first before removing the memory card.
- Try cleaning on the copper plate (golden yellow color) with a white pencil eraser. Don’t rub it too hard, so that the copper plate doesn’t peel off.
- If you are sure it is clean, now insert the memory card back into its slot and check whether the memory card has been read or not.
Format Memory Card from Android Smartphone
- Open Menu Settings – Storage
- On the menu there is an option Erase SD Cards. Select on that option, the memory will be formatted to make clean memory like new.
Check Damage from PC or Laptop
- Connect Android to your laptop or PC using a data cable.
- Don’t forget to make sure your Android is in mode Mass Storage mode (MSC), not media transfer mode (MTP).
- Now open Windows Explorer, then right click on Memory card drive, then select Properties – Tools – Error Checking and wait until the process is complete.
- Do Eject on the memory then check whether it has been read or not.
Format Using PC
The final step if MircoSD or memory card is not detected on Android, but is fine on a laptop or PC, try using the following method.
- Open a new folder in Hard Disk Give your computer any name you can remember. This folder is used as a temporary storage or backup of the contents of the memory card that has been damaged earlier.
- Copy all the data on the memory card, then Paste in the new folder you created.
- If so, try formatting the memory card.
- Then try to reverse the data in the HardDisk folder of your computer.
- Now try to check the memory card on Android again, it works or not.
