How to choose a thermal camera for early detection of Covid-19
The government is currently making a number of efforts to reduce the spread of the corona virus (Covid-19). One of them is by inviting people to do all activities at home or a term that is often referred to as social distancing.
Dr. Sanny Suharli as General Chairperson of the Indonesian Security Technology and Industry Association (ATISI) explained. There is one thing that is no less important in increasing efforts to detect early using thermal cameras in public spaces.
“The use of thermal cameras in public spaces is highly recommended compared to firing thermometers. Because it has fewer contacts, better accuracy, and minimal human error,” said Sanny in his statement.
How to choose a thermal camera for early detection of Covid-19

So how do you choose a good thermal camera to detect Covid-19 early? Here are some tips from Professtama, which is one of the providers of security technology in Indonesia. You may be able to follow some of the following tips below.
1. Choose a thermal camera at an accuracy level below 0.5°C
Indeed, there are many types of thermal cameras nowadays, but the most important thing is to choose a thermal camera specifically for humans, not for industry.
Why is this so important, because thermal cameras for humans have a temperature level of 0.5 °C in the temperature range of 20-50 °C.
While the thermal camera used for industry, the level of accuracy is at 3°C, in a temperature range of more than 300°C. Of course, if the camera is used for humans, then the temperature measurement of 3°C from 36.5°C to 39.5°C is certainly not valid.
2. Placing the camera at an effective distance

For each thermal camera there is a temperature measuring sensor. So the bigger the sensor, the thermal camera can measure the temperature from a longer distance.
Don’t forget to make sure the camera distance is within the effective range. Currently, there are thermal cameras that can accurately detect temperatures within 1-2 square meters. Like the W95 type camera produced by Jisung Protech.
If you want to be even more sophisticated, there is a Jisung Protech D60 type thremal camera that is capable of detecting from a distance of 3-10 square meters.
3. Have after-sales service as well as staff training
You can also choose thermal camera brands and distributors that provide after-sales service or staff training. Because operating a thermal camera optimally is quite important. Such as proper installation and area restrictions as well as alarm settings need to be known by staff.
Thermal cameras, for example, are more appropriate for indoor use. This thermal camera should be connected to a monitor or CCTV. So that officers and visitors can easily see the temperature measurement process. But the alarm must also be heard by the officers.
Also make sure that when a visitor with a high body temperature is seen on the thermal camera, the staff needs to carry out reporting, inspections, entry restrictions and isolation according to the SOP.
