- Open Microsoft Word on your laptop or PC
Then enter the menu Insert then select Page numbers
- Later a menu will appear to select the location of the page number. Here you can choose what you want to be at the top of the page, below the page and other positions.

- Double click on the footer or page number that you created earlier
Then check the Different first page
- Well the page number on the first page is gone

- Click on start page
Then enter the menu Page Layout and select Breaks
- Next select Next Page
Later you will see page 2 of your document sheet becomes blank. This is because you checked the option Different first page
- Now double click on the footer of the previous page
Then uncheck Different first page
- However, the previous page will remain in the same numbering starting from the number 2
So why can this happen? this is because we haven’t reset the page numbering yet. You can follow these steps.
- Double click on the footer
Then click again on the page number and click on options Format page numbersyou can see that the page numbers are still numbered in the previous section so the cover page is still counted.
- Now to change it, click Start at
Then on field enter the number 1 to start numbering from number 1.
- You have successfully created a number in Microsoft Word
The cover page won’t even show a number.
