Because the Powerbank caught fire, this plane was forced to make an emergency landing

One of the Virgin Atlantic planes was forced to make an emergency landing because a seat caught fire caused by a portable battery pack or power bank.

The plane, which was en route from JFK airport in New York to Heathrow airport in London, was forced to make an emergency landing at Logan airport in Boston after flames and smoke emerged from the seat of one of the passengers.

Fortunately, all 217 passengers on board were successfully evacuated, that’s what Dafunda Tekno quoted from The Verge.

Causes of Burning Powerbank in the Plane

The fire was extinguished by the flight crew. After an investigation, it was found that there were a number of burnt wires in the chair where a power bank and cellphone charger were also located.

There is no definite clarity about why the powerbank caught fire. When viewed from many incidents, lithium ion batteries have the potential to catch fire. In addition, the use of an incompatible charger can provide too much current or a defective battery can occur overchargeand excessive heat can also burn the battery.

Because of this, now many aviation regulatory bodies in various countries have begun to apply strict rules regarding powerbanks or the types of batteries that can be put into the plane.
