Be alert, there is an asteroid that may hit the earth this year

In the fall of this year, the Earth will be approached by an uninvited guest from outer space. The asteroid, named 2006 QV89, is reportedly not only passing through Earth, but there will also be a possibility of hitting Earth.

As Dafunda Tekno quoted from Live Science, Monday 10/6/2022 the European Space Agency (ESA) estimates that one of these space objects will cross Earth on September 9 next.

After being studied, this asteroid is one of the objects included in the list of space objects that are most likely to hit Earth. Of the 10 objects on the list, 2006 QV89 ranks fourth.

Possibility of Asteroid QV89 will hit Earth

ESA is currently monitoring the route that 2006 QV89 will follow. According to ESA estimates, it is likely that the asteroid will pass Earth more than 6.8 million kilometers away.

However, the ESA also confirms that there is a 1 in 7,299 chance that 2006 QV89 will hit where we live today. If this does not happen, 2006 QV89 will also still cross Earth in 2032, 2045, and 2062.

If indeed the asteroid hits Earth, the impact of the destruction is also quite significant. According to Purdue University’s Impact Earth calculator, this asteroid has the potential to hit Earth with a force of 1.5 megatons.
