Banks Conceded Up To 1 Trillion For Using Used Routers
In this sophisticated era, of course, a super-super secure level of security is needed, starting from data security, network security to financial security which needs to be improved again. Why not, a report released by the BBC on Monday stated that a bank located in Bangladesh suffered heavy losses of up to 1 Trillion Rupiah, a very large number for a central bank to lose. This big incident really made a question mark for the public, what and what made the central bank suffer such a huge loss.
And in the end the question was answered, the cause of the losses experienced by the bank was due to a cheap router installed in the bank. It is true that to support modernity in a building, infrastructure is also needed and one of them is a router, but what is surprising is that the router used is a router that can be said to be cheap and used, even the price is only around 200 thousand Rupiah.
It was negligence on the part of the bank that ultimately made the bank suffer a huge loss. The big loss was done entirely by the hackers, who were convinced to launch their attacks through a cheap router installed on the bank. Hackers who infiltrate through the router have privileged access which then makes transfers to several accounts.
However, the transfer activities carried out by these hackers were eventually discovered by the bank, through the mistakes made by the hackers when spelling names in the money transfer process. And after being added up, the money that was successfully taken by the hackers was 81USD or around 1 Trillion rupiah. And after checking back on the list of transfers made by the hackers, many were directed to accounts in the Philippines and on average headed for casino gambling.
This incident certainly made many questions from people about the level of security owned by the bank, because it relied on the used router for 200 thousand and made a loss of up to 1 trillion. This incident is certainly a lesson for any bank to pay more attention to the level of security through the network that is currently happening in the business world.
